Great Home Away From Home

Home Away from Home at Bull Hill Guest Ranch

One of my biggest hangups about leaving town is having to leave my horse, but at Bull Hill, my friends and I were able to bring ours along. Cabins are cozy and rustic, food is great, and the hospitality of the wranglers, cooks and staff is second to none. Brent, Tucker, Maja and Joe were all lovely, professional, and beyond accommodating. You really do feel like you’re apart of the family by the time you leave. There are many outdoorsy activities but we stuck to moving cattle and riding out on our horses. If you aren’t able to bring your own horse, the ranch has a large herd to choose from that all seemed in great health and well trained. Everyone that I met there that weekend had been coming to the ranch for years and years, which spoke volumes. Bull Hill is the real deal. We’ve already planned 2 trips back over the next year!

Fun And Authentic

We had a wonderful time meeting the team that ran Bull Hill Guest Ranch and learning how to herd the cattle. The food was great, the view was awesome and the people were warm and friendly! We loved it and plan to go back every year for the round up!

Wonderful! Can’t wait to go back

Dude Ranch Vacation

This was definitely one of our best vacations! They called while we were still enroute to check our ETA and if we wanted to ride that afternoon. We just missed the missed the window and needed to settle in first, but great service. The directions led us right there, and to another world away from the city and everyday stresses. Put your electronic devices down and get away from it all (they do have wi-fi and charging stations if that’s not an option). Upon arrival, we were welcomed warmly and given a quick tour. As another reviewer mentioned, “make yourself at home”. Hang out at your cabin or the cookhouse enjoying the people and the amazing views, soak in one of the two hot tubs, visit with the horses (they might even come visit you), go for a walk, go to the lake to swim or boat or fish (there’s no beach but there is a floating dock). The cookhouse is the heart of the ranch. Family, staff, and guests all came together to eat, relax, and plan the next adventure. Wonderful meals were provided and there’s no reason to go hungry. Snacks were available at different times of the day and beverages were always available, including at the help-yourself open bar. At meals the next rides were planned–do you want to go? long ride or short ride? We were each partnered with a particular horse for the duration of our stay. We also were partnered with a particular wrangler who led each ride (thank you Jordana). This continuity provided familiarity and greater trust. And the rides were NOT boring follow-the-leader plods down well-manicured trails on horses that have forgotten how to think. The horses are allowed free range and choose to return to the barn in the morning (a few more independent minded ones are kept in a corral by the barn). There are ranch roads and well-used trails but there was also freedom to take off up or down a hill and through the brush and trees based on your experience level. I read one review that said “be prepared to be forgotten”. The experience is what you choose to make of it. As stated above, the family and staff ate with the guests and plans were made at those meals. The one time we weren’t certain, all we had to do was ask. And when it came time to leave, it felt like we were leaving family. Thank you everyone, I really do hope to get back to see you.

A pleasant surprise!

A pleasant surprise!

Dude Ranch Vacation

Dude Ranch. We stayed in one of the cabins on the property which was roomy, had a great porch with a terrific view from the rocking chairs and a very large bathroom.

The whole vibe about the place feels very remote, very friendly due to guests and staff and filled with so many things to do its impossible to be bored. Its very comfortable. From the dogs on staff (miss June very much) to the rainbow trout stocked lake to the beautiful views from the mountain via horseback to the on-demand skeet shooting the place is terrific.

The food was also great and it was fun to mingle at the bar with the staff and the other guests.

Don’t overlook the 6 hole par 18 golf course at the bottom of the entry road. Clubs, balls and a scorecards available from the owner.

We have been heading west from Ohio every summer for a decade and enjoy ranches where we can fish. This was first rate. The staff admittedly had little experience with fly fishing but went out of their way to help us find guides … and good ones. The Evening Hatch was fantastic.

Bull Hill is a great value for the money.

Take a moment to ask Tucker about the family history and the property.

Bull Hill is the answer!

Bull Hill is the answer!

Bull Hill Guest Ranch

Bull Hill Guest Ranch. We’ve been through many major cities in Asia, US, and Europe and wanted to do something a little different this year without totally forgoing the amenities and comfort of leisure travel. Bull Hill Guest Ranch is the answer! Since the ranch is a working cattle ranch (in contrast to a “staged” dude ranch), Bull Hill had an authenticity that makes the ranch experience genuine . Members of the Guglielmino family are still currently active in running the ranch. The ranch is a quite long ride from Spokane and Seattle but it is worth it. My family stayed in one of the ranch cabins and it was more than adequate – my husband and I on the first floor and my son in the attic. It was roomy, comfortable and very clean. The views were fantastic and the people we met very friendly and helpful. For families looking for this type of alternative tour experience, look no further. Bull Hill Guest Ranch is the answer!

Excellent Dude Ranch Vacation

Excellent Dude Ranch Vacation

Dude Ranch Vacation

Dude Ranch Vacation. Excellent Dude Ranch Vacation. This was my first stay at this ranch and I will be returning. The location is gorgeous! You get plenty of horseback riding opportunities on horses that are well taken care of. Riders can be beginners or experienced. I did skeet shooting for the very first time and I really enjoyed it. I absolutely loved my cabin!!! Very rustic feeling with great charm, plenty of space, lots of hooks for clothes, dresser, closet, a wood stove that I used daily, comfortable beds, extra blankets, big bathroom, lots of hot water and pressure in the shower, chopped wood stacked on your porch next to the rocking chair, a cute loft with lots of additional sleeping space in addition to the two queen beds on the main floor, pretty views out the front door, trees all around the back and sides, close to cookhouse/lodge and barn, deer roaming the yard in the morning, very quiet and peaceful.

All the staff are very welcoming and extremely helpful, if you need something, don’t hesitate to ask, they will do their best to help (with a genuine smile on their face). The food is plentiful and hearty and varied throughout the week, terrific homemade desserts, lots of fresh fruits and veggies, perfectly cooked meats, and all the alcohol you can drink while visiting with your old and new friends!!!

This is a family run business and you will see them from morning until night; from office to kitchen to eating all the meals with the guests to wrangling and everything else in between. They all work very hard, love their jobs, are super entertaining, and definitely hold up the ‘Cowboy Look’. There are four friendly ranch dogs running around that can tag along on horse rides and cattle drives (two seasoned ones and two puppies in training). The ranch has a small private lake for fishing, swimming, canoeing, and paddle boating. There is a winery tour close by that you can stop off at during a horseback ride as well as a saloon tour on another days ride.

Bring a cowboy hat, good riding boots, and LAYERS (the weather can vary greatly from morning to night). Spring and fall might require a jacket that is waterproof or some type of slicker or rain poncho. This is a great place for singles, couples, groups, and children of riding age. They did not charge me a ‘single supplement fee’ for being solo (which gets high marks in my book). I saw eagles, bats, cattle, two bear, two coyotes, lots of turkeys, plenty of deer, and lots of water birds. The barn is amazing; huge with a loft and picture perfect views from the upper deck, very well maintained and everything in order, the wranglers are quick getting the horses ready for each guest, and there is also a bathroom for those last minute calls of nature before hitting the trails.

You can bring your own handgun for target shooting or use their shotgun for skeet. Check-in starts at noon, so there is plenty of time left in the day for exploring, meals, relaxing, and even an afternoon trail ride. I have been to other ranches and I would consider this a ‘no-frills’ ranch. This is not a negative thing, it means that you don’t go here expecting all the staff to be lined up along the driveway just waiting for your arrival (drive to the cookhouse/lodge and someone will be there in the kitchen or office who will warmly welcome you and show you to your cabin). There is not daily maid service, linen napkins, or someone waiting on you at your dining table. Instead; you get to make yourself at home by kicking back on a couch with a cold beverage that you can just go and help yourself to any time you want, receive true hospitality, live a genuine and authentic cowboy lifestyle, do lots of laughing and smiling, and have a tired and sore but happy body at night after a soak in one of their two hot tubs. Happy Trails!!!
